Rohit Sharma will be one of just four players at this edition of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup that took part in the inaugural event 15 years ago.
In 2007, the current skipper of the Indian team played his first World Cup ever. After 15 long years, Rohit has become a veteran and leading Team India in the mega event.
In the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup , Rohit played a match-winning cameo of 30 runs in the final against arch-rivals Pakistan in Johannesburg.
A lot has changed in this format of the game since then. But the passion and pressure to win the coveted trophy once again remains the same. Rohit is committed to emulate ‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni’ and lead his team to win the title this time.
“It has been a long journey and this format of the game has evolved a lot since the first edition of T20 World Cup 15 years ago. The guys are excited to enjoy in the middle and don’t want to put any kind of pressure on them as we did in the first edition of the World Cup. I am hopeful that the results will automatically follow,” said Rohit.
Notably, Rohit and Co need to find the balance of the team right to make any impact against the big guns in the mega event. The Men in Blue will lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in their T20 World Cup opener at MCG on October 23.
