Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has slammed senior players of Team India including Virat Kohli for seeking rest.
As per reports, Virat Kohli has asked for rest from the upcoming series against West Indies. Gavaskar asked BCCI to intervene and handle players who are asking for rest before the crucial series.
“I don’t agree with this kind of attitude. The senior players won’t take rest during the Indian Premier League (IPL) and then you will take rest while playing for India. I don’t agree with this kind of logic. You have to play for India. Don’t talk about rest or whatever. T20I is a matter of only 20 overs and it doesn’t take a heavy toll on your body,” the Little Master said.
“In Test cricket, a cricketer’s body and mind take a beating, but in T20 ties, it’s a matter of only 20 overs of batting and fielding, so there should not be any problem with that. BCCI should revisit its policy on acceding to the players’ demand for rest,” he said.
Gavaskar feels that Indian cricket has to become more professional and for that it will have to draw a line somewhere.
“Apart from BCCI contract, players get huge payments for playing matches. If Indian cricket has to become more professional then they have to draw a line somewhere. If you want rest, then your guarantees will have to be reduced,” he added.
