SRH's Rs 23 Crore overseas star announces retirement to spend time with family!

In an unexpected move, aggressive South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen has announced his retirement from international cricket. 

According to 33-year-old Klaasen, he has announced his retirement from international cricket so that he will be able to spend more time with his family.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had retained Klaasen for a record-breaking Rs 23 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. The development had made Klaasen the most expensive player retained by an IPL franchise in history.

"It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket. It took me a long time to decide what's best for me and my family for the future. It was truly a very difficult decision but also one that I have absolute peace with," said Klaasen after announcing his retirement.

"I look forward to spending more time with my family as this decision will allow me to do so. I will always be a big Proteas supporter and would like to thank everyone that supported me and my teammates during my career," he added.

The aggressive batter known for his massive six hitting skills made his international debut in 2018. He went on to play in 60 ODIs and 58 T20Is for South Africa, garnering a total of 2141 and 1000 runs respectively across formats. He hit four centuries and 11 fifties in ODIs. He has also scored five half-centuries in T20Is.

Klaasen has smashed the 3rd fastest century in the history of Indian Premier League. The South African reached the landmark in just 37 balls. He achieved the feat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025.
