However, he has not been selected in the Indian team for the upcoming Test series against England. Many experts and several fans were surprised over the development. Many believed Shreyas would've been the perfect replacement for Virat Kohliat No. 4. His non-inclusion in the Indian team is a concerning sign, particularly after a domestic season in which he scored at an average of 68.57 in the Ranji Trophy.

Social media was quick to react to the non-inclusion of Iyer, wondering if this was a personal issue rather than a performance one. Many fans blamed former KKR mentor and current Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir for the development. They are of the opinion that Iyer was not selected in the Indian Test squad as he was not in good terms with Gambhir during his KKR stint.

Now speculation is rife among the fans that with Gambhir remaining at the helm of the affairs as the head coach of the Indian team, Iyer's future in the longest format of the game is bleak.
