Veteran batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have already retired from T20 game. However, both the senior cricketers are still continuing to represent India in ODI and Test formats.

Both Kohli and Rohit are going through horrible form in recent times. Their poor form has become a major concern for Team India as it has been hugely affecting the team’s performance in recent times.

In response, many fans and experts are of the opinion that both the great cricketers should retire gracefully to make way for young talented cricketers.

Meanwhile, former Australia cricketer Greg Chappell, who is known for his out of box approach, has a different view over the issue.

According to Greg, it is more a job of the selectors than the players themselves to decide when to leave or retire from the sport. The former great cricketer further said that with cricket increasingly becoming a high-paying profession in the world of sport, players are more eager to prolong their career and hence the role of the selectors become more important in this aspect.

“You know yourself whether you are at your peak or not. But they obviously love playing the game. They want to play it as long as they can, and they have every reason, every right to want to go as long as they can. That’s why you need good, robust selection policies and selection panels to make those tough decisions,” said Greg in a recent interaction.

“It’s not up to the players necessarily to make those decisions. They might want to make that decision. But it’s a well-paid job. Who’s going to walk away from it? Someone else has to make that decision. That’s why you need robust selection panels and policies,” he added.

Greg also said that the cricket boards need to hire good selector who can have those tough conversations with senior cricketers.
