Seven famous cricketers who faced suspension due to banned drug usage

Recently South African speedster Kagiso Rabada had to face suspension after testing positive for the usage of a banned substance.

Shane Warne

The legendary Australian leg-spinner tested positive for using a banned substance during the World Cup 2003. Subsequently, he was suspended from cricketing action for a year.

Wasim Akram

The great Pakistani speedster has also admitted to cocaine usage in his autobiography - Sultan: A Memoir

Yusuf Pathan

The aggressive Indian all-rounder faced charges of using banned substances. He failed a dope test and served a five-month suspension that ended in 2018.

Ian Botham

Former England great Botham was banned from the game in 1989, after being found guilty of smoking cannabis.

Stephen Fleming

Though former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming is known for his cool behaviour on and off the field, it was shocking to hear that Fleming was also involved in doping.

Fleming was charged with smoking pot along with a few other Kiwi players involving Dion Nash and Matthew Hart. Severe fines were imposed on the trio and they were banned from the remaining leg of the tour. Fleming even lost his sponsorship following the incident.

Shoaib Akhtar

Pakistani speedsters Shoaib Akhtar along with Asif tested positive for performance enhancing drug tests prior to their opening match in the 2006 Champions Trophy against Sri Lanka in Jaipur. Subsequently, both were withdrawn from the squad and sent back home.
