Delhi fans witnessed nostalgia and new talent in equal measure as Aaryavir Sehwag, son of cricket legend Virender Sehwag, announced his arrival in the 2025 Delhi Premier League (DPL) with a fearless batting display.

A Confident Start on the Big Stage

At just 17 years old, Aaryavir opened for Central Delhi Kings against East Delhi Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on August 27. After a slow start, just one run off his first four deliveries, he switched gears in style, scoring 22 off 16 balls with four crisp boundaries.

His timing and composure stood out, especially when he punished India pacer Navdeep Saini with two exquisite shots through the covers, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Flashes of Aggression

Young spinner Rounak Waghela bore the brunt of Aaryavir’s aggression in the fifth over, conceding two consecutive boundaries. However, Waghela had the last laugh, dismissing the teenager soon after.

The crowd, though, had already seen glimpses of the Sehwag flair clean hitting and fearless intent.

Impact Beyond the Bat

Aaryavir also impressed in the field, taking a sharp catch to dismiss East Delhi opener Sujal Singh. Central Delhi posted 155 runs, with Yugal Saini’s 52 off 32 leading the charge, before bowling East Delhi out for 93, thanks to Money Grewal’s five-wicket haul.

A Star in the Making

With a history of stellar performances like a 297-run marathon for Delhi U-19 in the Cooch Behar Trophy, Aaryavir’s rise has been steady. Snapped up for Rs 8 lakh in the DPL auction, he’s keen to build on this platform as Central Delhi, currently league leaders, head into Qualifier 1 on August 29.
