Legendry Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar had slammed promising batsman Sarfaraz Khan for his questionable shot selection during the Dharamsala Test against England.
Sarfaraz played aggressive to score 56 off just 59 delivery in the match. However, momentum shifted abruptly after the tea break on the second day when the promising batsman made a costly mistake. With a disappointing lack of precision, he attempted a cut shot off Shoaib Bashir’s delivery only to find himself caught out at slip.
Following the development, Gavaskar slammed Sarfaraz by reflecting the missed opportunity and his lapse in concentration.
“The ball was pitched up, it wasn’t short enough for that shot. Goes for it and pays the price. I mean you are playing the first ball after tea. Give yourself a little sighter,” Gavaskar had said.
“Don Bradman said to me, ‘Every ball that I face, even if I am on 200, I think I am on 0.’ And here is Sarfaraz, playing such a shot first ball of the session,” the Little Master had added.
In response to Gavaskar’s harsh comment, Sarfaraz has apologized before Gavaskar for his poor shot selection.
“Sir, please say sorry to Mr. Gavaskar – I made a mistake! I won’t make that mistake again,” Sarfaraz said to a Dubai-based businessman who had facilitated the meeting between the promising batter and former great Gavaskar.
