In a development that has stunned the Indian sporting fraternity, badminton stars Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap have announced their decision to part ways after six years of marriage.
The former world-class shuttlers shared the news on Sunday via social media, calling the separation a ‘mutual and respectful’ decision.
‘Life Takes Us in Different Directions’
Saina, a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Olympic bronze medallist, took to Instagram to share the heartfelt update.
"Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We’re choosing peace, growth, and healing – for ourselves and each other," she wrote.
Saina also thanked fans for their support, adding, “I’m grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time.”
A Journey from Court to Companionship
Saina and Kashyap’s relationship blossomed during their years training together at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad. The duo tied the knot in December 2018 in an intimate ceremony attended by family and close friends.
Saina, a former world No.1 and one of India’s most celebrated athletes, has inspired millions with her achievements, including her historic Olympic bronze in 2012. Kashyap, a former world top-10 player, etched his name in Indian badminton history by winning the men’s singles gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
End of an Era, Beginning of a New Chapter
