The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai erupted in joy after India thrashed the Sri Lankans by a record 302 runs to enter the World Cup semi-finals. India captain Rohit Sharma’s Army is likely to finish with an all-win record as they will face South Africa on November 5 and the Netherlands on November 12.

Virat Kohli’s and Shubman Gill’s magical partnership ensured a thrilling win for team India. Much before the game, a statue of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was unveiled at the Wankhede Stadium in the presence of his family and other dignitaries.

The statue, depicting a graceful lofted hit, has been installed adjacent to the Sachin Tendulkar stand. This stadium happens to be his home ground and venue where he realised his childhood dream of winning the World Cup with India in 2011.

However, fans are super disappointed with the statue after pictures surfaced on social media. Netizens are of the opinion that the statue looks more like Steve Smith than Sachin Tendulkar. Social media users are flooding X, formerly known as Twitter, with hilarious memes and jokes after the unveiling of the statue.

“To compensate this, Cricket Australia will install Sachin’s statue at the SCG after Smith’s retirement 😂😂😂” shared a fan.

Another fan wrote, “Uncanny, they unveiled Steve Smith statue in the name of Sachin Tendulkar. This world cup doesn't look like an ICC event, but CA event.”

“They robbed Sachin Tendulkar 😭😭” commented a third person.
