The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has barred fast bowler Yash Dayal from participating in the UP T20 League following serious allegations of sexual harassment and rape.
Dayal is facing two separate cases—one in Ghaziabad involving charges of sexual exploitation under the pretext of marriage, and another in Jaipur where he has been accused of raping a minor over a period of two years.
The Allahabad High Court has granted him protection from arrest in the Ghaziabad case, but the Rajasthan High Court refused to extend similar relief in the Jaipur matter due to the involvement of a minor. His next court hearing is scheduled for August 22, and he could face arrest.
Dayal, who was bought by Gorakhpur Lions for Rs 7 lakh in the UP T20 League, had been expected to feature prominently this season. He rose to prominence after playing a key role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 title win.
According to the complaint in Jaipur, the victim came in contact with Dayal at the age of 17 during an IPL match. She alleged that he first lured her to a hotel under the guise of offering cricketing advice, where the initial assault took place. The victim further claimed that the abuse continued for two years, during which Dayal allegedly manipulated her with promises of a career in cricket.
Jaipur police confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the pacer under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
