Despite his brilliant knock of 89 and a crucial 203-run partnership with captain Shubman Gill, which helped India post a mammoth total in the first innings of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, utility all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s actions drew attention for a disciplinary lapse.

Veteran all-rounder Jadeja came under fire for violating the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

As per sources, BCCI has implemented a rule that mandates all players travel together on the team bus to and from the ground, without exceptions for individual transport. However, Jadeja reached Edgbaston ahead of the rest of the team to take part in a net session before continuing his innings.

Meanwhile, the rest of the squad arrived later. Since he intended to support the team’s cause, it’s unlikely that the BCCI will take any disciplinary action against him.

Reflecting over the development, Jadeja said, " I felt it was important to get some extra batting practice as the ball was still new. I thought if I could see off the new ball, the rest of the innings would become easier. Fortunately, I managed to bat through until lunch, and then Washington Sundar also played well alongside Shubman. In England, the longer you bat, the better it is because you never truly feel settled. At any moment, the ball could swing and get your edge or bowl you out."
