There is a saying, ‘Like father like son’. Virender Sehwag’s son Aaryavir is also no different. The junior Sehwag emulates the senior Sehwag and often displays fearless batting style reminiscent of his father.

The matter was evident when Aaryavir lit up the Cooch Behar Trophy recently with a scintillating knock of 297 runs for Delhi U-19 at the MCA Cricket Ground in Shillong.

Aaryavir’s innings was a masterclass in stroke play and determination, but he fell just three runs shy of what would have been a coveted triple century.

It was the second match for Aaryavir and the third match for Delhi in the Cooch Behar Trophy where the aggressive batting sensation blew away the opposition with his whirlwind knock.

However, fans will be stunned to know that Odisha spin sensation Sayed Tufayl Ahmad was instrumental in keeping Aaryavir at bay in his first match against Odisha.

In fact, 17-year old Tufayl made Aaryavir his bunny twice during both the innings of the four-day match played at the St. Stephen’s Ground in Delhi from December 6 to 9.

Tufayl's Dominance In Cooch Behar Trophy

Moreover, Tufayl ruled the roost in the match by taking a total of nine wickets. He captured 4/32 in the first innings and 5/59 in the second innings including the prized wicket of Aaryavir in both the innings.

Riding on the scintillating bowling of Tufayl, Odisha scripted a convincing victory of 113 runs over formidable Delhi on their home soil.

Aryavir could score only 22 runs from 41 balls in the first innings and 13 runs from 39 balls in the second innings. He got out by getting LBW of Tufayl’s brilliant spin trap on both the innings.

“Aaryavir was a very dangerous batsman. He can take away the game from the opposition with his aggressive batting very quickly. However, he could not judge my bowl that took sharp turn and hit his pads on both the innings. He was adjudged leg before the wicket on both the occasions," said Tufayl while speaking to OTV English.

"The prized wicket paved the way for Odisha’s resounding victory against hosts Delhi. I and my teammates were over the blue moon after the wickets. By taking the prized wicket of the junior Sehwag, my confidence went sky high as well,” added Tufayl.
