Iconic KalingaStadiun in the Capital City of Odisha has emerged as the frontrunner to host the upcoming U-17 Women’s Football World Cup in October.
With the State government undertaking massive infrastructure overhaul, a FIFA delegation visiting the stadium on Wednesday expressed its satisfaction with the development work.
After inspecting various facilities at the stadium, the delegation is said to have held a discussion with the State Sports Secretary Vineel Krishna.
“Odisha is a State of sports and it’s feeling great to be here. The stadium has been developed enormously. We have been watching the stadium. A big team is evaluating all the functional areas as well as the renovations at the stadium,” said tournament Director Jamie Yarza.
Yarja said that discussions about the modalities of the tournament with the Odisha government are underway. There are still many things to be done. Hopefully they will be completed in time,” he said.
Earlier, Yarja has indicated that the world soccer body is ‘open’ to reducing the number of venues for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in India later this year amid Covid-19 guidelines.
