Team India selectors will have a good headache while selecting the wicketkeeper for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 to be played in India. With Ishan Kishan and recovering KL Rahul being the options for the slot and Sanju Samson as a back-up, selectors will have a problem of plenty.

However, responding to the dilemma, former skipper Sourav Ganguly revealed that he would pick Kishan as his wicketkeeping option purely on the basis of his explosive batting.

“Pant is the best wicketkeeper in the country. However, you can see Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul (depending on his fitness); these two will be right up in the minds of captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. I like Ishan Kishan because he just opens up the game for any team. I am sure Dravid will keep him in his plans,” said Ganguly.

Earlier, former head coach Ravi Shastri had also backed Kishan for the role in the mega event. As per Shastri, Rahul shouldn’t be allowed to walk into the playing XI for such a big tournament after a big injury lay off.

Notably, left-handed Ishan has been a regular member of the ODI set-up since February 2022. He has so far appeared in 15 matches and scored 634 runs at an average of 48.76 with a record double century and five half-centuries.
