Jasprit Bumrah
After the retirement of veteran cricketer Rohit Sharma from the longest format of the game, young and talented batter Shubman Gill has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner to be the new captain of India in the red ball cricket.
However, former World Cup winning Indian great Madan Lal has suggested that premier speedster Jasprit Bumrah should be named the captain of the Indian Test team if he is fit and fine.
"I feel Jasprit Bumrah is the ideal candidate to lead India. Fitness is a separate issue, but if he is fit and available, he should be the first choice," said Madan Lal during a recent interview.
Notably, 31-year-old Bumrah led India in the rescheduled fifth Test against England in Birmingham in 2022. He also guided the Indian team in two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024-25.

Under Bumrah's leadership, India thrashed Australia by 295 runs in the first match of the Test series in last November.
As the leader of the Indian team, Bumrah has claimed 15 wickets across three Test matches, with his best figures being five wickets for 30 runs from 18 overs in the first innings of the Perth Test.
