A terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives on 22 April, has led to widespread condemnation and raised questions about future cricket encounters between India and Pakistan.

The terrorists targeted tourists at the scenic Baisaran meadows. This tragic event has further strained the already tense relationship between the neighbouring countries, prompting debate over their interactions on the cricket field.
For the past decade, India and Pakistan's cricket matches have been restricted to International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments and continental cups, with their last bilateral series taking place in 2012-2013. These matches garner immense global attention, often being scheduled in the same group stages to maximise viewership.
Speculations on Cricketing Ties
Amidst the aftermath of the attack, speculations have emerged suggesting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may have requested that the ICC ensure India and Pakistan do not compete in the initial stages of forthcoming cricket events.

However, Cricbuzz reported a senior BCCI official responding to these claims, stating, "We are unaware of such a request being made, and no formal communication on the matter has been initiated yet."
Upcoming Tournaments & Venues
No men's ICC events are slated for this year, with the Women's World Cup scheduled to take place in India from September to October. As previously agreed, Pakistan's matches will occur at a neutral venue. Similarly, the men's Asia Cup, also to be hosted by India, will proceed at a neutral site to align with past agreements.
Statements from BCCI
Expressing solidarity with the victims, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla said, "We strictly adhere to government directives concerning bilateral series with Pakistan. While we refrain from such series, we participate in ICC events under the organisation’s obligations."
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed his sorrow for the lives lost in Pahalgam. "The cricket fraternity is deeply shocked by the tragic events in Pahalgam," he said, extending condolences to affected families and offering prayers for those lost.
