Several fans are intrigued about veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni’s future in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2025 retention deadline and auction.

Though it was expected that IPL 2024 may be the last IPL season for Dhoni, several fans and experts are now speculating that the former captain of the Yellow Brigade may still play for the franchise in IPL 2025 at the age of 43.

In response, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has recently revealed where the franchise is in terms of reaching an agreement with Dhoni for the next season of the cash-rich league.

“We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team. But Dhoni has not confirmed it to us yet. Dhoni said, ‘I will tell you before October 31.’ We hope that he will play,” said Viswanathan.

Notably, CSK may be benefitted by the new auction rule. The new rule allows teams to retain former Indian internationals at the uncapped base price of INR 4 cr under the stipulation that they haven’t played internationally in the last five years.

As Dhoni retired after the 2019 ODI World Cup, he could rejoin CSK at a discount price. The development would allow CSK to keep much of their core players for the 2025 season.
