In a good news for the fans of Indian cricket, a small victory memorial will be built in Wankhede Stadium soon to commemorate Team India’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 victory.
As per Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Amol Kale, the memorial will be built at the exact location where MS Dhoni's iconic winning six had landed in the stands.
“The MCA Apex Council has decided to make a small victory memorial in Wankhede Stadium stands to commemorate Men in Blue’s 2011 World Cup victory. The memorial will be built at the location where the then Team India captain Dhoni’s historic winning six had landed in the stands,” said Kale.
MCA is hopeful that they will approach Dhoni and the legendry cricketer will inaugurate the memorial when he is in Mumbai for his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) encounter against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 8.
However, the final date is yet to be finalised as it depends upon Dhoni’s availability. MCA will also felicitate Dhoni during the inauguration of the World Cup Victory Memorial.
Notably, India defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to emerge champions.
