Poverty is a vicious circle. It has ruined many talents at the grassroots level. But national-level fame tribal girl of Koraput-Moti Jani is made up of different elements. Thanks to the hard work and determination, her indomitable spirit is yet to be suppressed by abject poverty and gross neglect.
The young weightlifter from the remote Bada Chandri village of Koraput district has so far won as many as three medals in the national level by virtue of her sheer talent. It’s a commendable feat for the promising girl considering the fact that she has brought laurels for the nation and the State without any proper coaching and training.
Moti is the only daughter of poor parents Guru Jani and Radha Jani. She supports her old parents by doing all the household chores. She also has to take care of the cattle, prepare leaf plates to earn a living for her family. However, all these difficulties have not deterred her from living her dream.
She rides her cycle up to three-four kilometers every day to a gymnasium to continue her training. Her passion for weightlifting has impressed one and all in the gymnasium.
“Moti is really gifted and talented. She practices weightlifting along with the boys here. She also trains them and gives them tips at times. She has a bright future. But the financial constraint is a major huddle in her way. Government and corporate sectors should extend their helping hands to support the bright prospect,” said her coach.
Meanwhile, Moti has been bolstered by her brilliant performance in the last Khelo India Games.
“I really want to excel in weightlifting. I am determined to perform well in the international arena and bring laurels for the State and country. But, I need some support in my training and dieting,” said Moti.
