Mohammad Azharuddin, one of the most stylish batsmen the world has ever seen, has a wish to set up a Cricket Academy in Bhubaneswar. In this regard, the former skipper had a discussion with the State Sports Secretary on Saturday.
In an exclusive interview with OTV, Azharuddin said, “Odisha has plenty of talents. Though they have the makings of good players, they are deprived of opportunities to play international matches. Similarly, in rural areas, the youths have tremendous potential but not as fortunate as their counterparts in urban areas.”
“If they are trained, they can ensure their place in Team India,” he said.
During the discussion, Azharuddin took a stroll down the memory lane and said he still remembers the match he had played at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack and the record he has in his name.
Azharuddin’s score 153 off 150 balls against Zimbabwe at Barabati Stadium on April 9, 1998 is the highest individual innings at the venue.
Earlier in the day, the cricketer had visited Kalinga Stadium and spoke highly of the infrastructure developed.
