In a great relief to the fans, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly said that Jasprit Bumrah hasn’t been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 just yet.
Recently, Bumrah sustained a back injury prior to India’s first T20I against South Africa in Trivandrum and was ruled out of the remaining two matches of the series. Later, Mohammed Siraj replaced the experienced pacer for the white-ball series at home.
“Bumrah is not out of the T20 World Cup yet,” Ganguly said during an interview with a channel.
However, the former India skipper kept his ‘fingers crossed’ and mentioned that a final decision in this regard could be taken in the next couple of days.
After missing the ongoing T20 series against South Africa that India are leading 1-0, Bumrah went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore to undergo scans. He is currently under the supervision of the medical staff at NCA.
After playing India’s away series against England, Bumrah made his return in the three-match T20I series against Australia. He bowled six overs and conceded 73 runs at an economy rate of 12.16 in two matches.
India are set to depart for Australia on October 6 to take part in a preparatory camp ahead of the T20 World Cup that starts on October 16.
