The IPL 2025 season kicks off on March 22, with RCB facing KKR in Kolkata while CSK will begin their campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 23 in Chennai. With both Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni on the verge of remarkable records, fans are eagerly anticipating an action-packed season.
Both of these two veteran players will be eyeing crucial records that will further strengthen their greatness in cricket.
Dhoni Eyes Unique Feat in T20 Cricket
Former India captain MS Dhoni is set to return to action for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman will create history if he plays at least nine matches this season, becoming the first cricketer to feature in 400 T20s, 350 ODIs, and 50 Test matches.
Currently, Dhoni has played 391 T20s, 350 ODIs, and 90 Tests. While several cricketers have crossed the 400-match mark in T20s, none have done so while also playing at least 350 ODIs and 50 Test matches.

CSK’s ninth match of the season, scheduled against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25 in Chennai, could mark this historic achievement.
Kohli on the Brink of Another Batting Record
Virat Kohli, the backbone of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is also on the cusp of making history. The star batter, who has already played 399 T20 matches, will become the third Indian to feature in 400 T20s when RCB faces Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the season opener on March 22 at Eden Gardens.
In addition, Kohli is just one century away from becoming the first Indian batter to hit 10 T20 hundreds.
