IPL 2025 suspension costs BCCI nearly Rs 125 crore per match

BCCI has suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for a week in wake of the escalated tensions between India and Pakistan.

As a result, principal stakeholders  like team owners and players, the host broadcasters, sponsors of various ilk have taken a massive hit.

Apart from them, vendors inside and outside the various stadiums, those selling merchandise, cab and three-wheeler operators who are massively in demand on match-nights, even restaurants and watering holes where footfalls abound in the city where a game is staged suffered huge losses.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that every cancelled match comes at a hefty cost. The loss stemming from every non-match is estimated to be between Rs 100 and Rs 125 crore. Even after insurance steps in, that loss translates to half that amount when broadcast, sponsorship and other match-related incomes are taken into consideration.

BCCI has informed the franchises to be in a state of readiness for an early resumption of the tournament. 

Meanwhile, former BCCI head and India captain Sourav Ganguly has backed BCCI to complete IPL 2025 in time.
