As Chennai Super Kings (CSK) endure a dismal IPL 2025 campaign, currently sitting at the bottom of the table with just two wins in nine matches, fans and cricket pundits alike are speculating about the franchise’s future. With playoff hopes hanging by a mathematical thread, conversations around a possible overhaul of the team have begun. Yet, amid the uncertainty, one familiar voice is keeping the hope alive — Suresh Raina, fondly known as ‘Chinna Thala’, believes that MS Dhoni might play one more season.
“Dhoni Will Play One More Season, For Sure” – Raina
In a candid conversation with sports presenter Jatin Sapru on YouTube, Raina acknowledged CSK’s poor performance this season, citing lapses in fielding, batting, and bowling. However, he expressed optimism about the team’s future, especially if better planning goes into the next mega auction.
“I hope that next season, they (CSK) come with better planning. And Dhoni is going to play for one more season, for sure,” Raina stated confidently, hinting that the legendary captain isn't ready to hang up his boots just yet.
MS Dhoni’s Role in the Auction – Not as Hands-On as Fans Think
While fans often believe that Dhoni calls all the shots when it comes to player selections, Raina revealed that the 43-year-old captain is not deeply involved in the auction process.
“They always say MS Dhoni makes the final call. But to be very honest, I never attended any of the auctions. I was never a part of those discussions,” Raina said. “He might suggest a few names — maybe four or five — and among them, a few might be retained. But the core group manages the auction.”

Dhoni: Still Giving Everything at
Despite his age, MS Dhoni remains a symbol of commitment and inspiration for the CSK faithful. Known for his calm demeanor, sharp tactical mind, and finishing prowess, Dhoni has led CSK to five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023), becoming one of the most successful captains in IPL history.
Even at 43, he continues to set high standards on the field. Though he has stepped down from regular captaincy duties in previous seasons, his presence in the squad remains invaluable, both as a player and a mentor.
A Legacy Still Being Written
MS Dhoni’s journey with CSK has transcended cricket. From winning titles to fostering young talent and building an emotional connection with fans, he has been the heart and soul of the franchise. While retirement talks are natural given his age, Dhoni himself has never ruled out one final hurrah.
And if Raina’s words are anything to go by, the Dhoni era might not be over just yet.
