Abhishek Sharma with his parents
In a remarkable show of talent, Abhishek Sharma, aged 24, spearheaded Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a record win against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sharma's dazzling innings of 141 runs off just 55 balls on Saturday in Hyderabad is etched in IPL history, marking the highest-run score by an Indian.
Father's Superstitions Resolved
Raj Kumar, Abhishek's father, watched his son play in the stadium for the first time, overcoming a long-standing superstition. Convinced by his son to attend, Raj's beliefs that his presence might bring misfortune were put to rest as Abhishek thrived on the pitch.
In a recent interview, Raj admitted, "For about 30 seconds, I blamed myself, fearing I brought misfortune. But then the umpire signalled no ball, and my fears subsided."
Challenges and Triumphs
Despite a lacklustre start to the season with four losses following their initial triumph over Rajasthan Royals, this victory signals a promising turn for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Abhishek's own performance had been rocky, with only 51 runs in his first five games. However, the latest performance is a testament to his capabilities and provides a morale boost to the team.
