IPL 2025: Former India star issues word of caution to Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a mere 14-year-old, left an indelible mark on IPL 2025 season. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, Suryavanshi captivated audiences by hitting a six with the first ball he faced — a remarkable achievement that sent ripples of excitement through the stadium and left the cricket community in surprise.

Promising Yet Cautioned

Continuing his promising start, Suryavanshi went on to score 16 runs, including two spectacular sixes, in his subsequent match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). 

However, veteran cricketer Virender Sehwag has provided words of caution to the budding talent. Sehwag expressed his wishes for Suryavanshi to prioritise a prolonged career in cricket over immediate fame.

Drawing Comparisons With Greats

Encouraging the young player to look towards legends like Virat Kohli for inspiration, Sehwag noted Kohli's 18-season tenure, which commenced when Kohli himself was 19. Sehwag highlighted Suryavanshi's courageous performances against Lucknow Super Giants and RCB but warned against becoming complacent.

Staying Focused on Longevity

Sehwag advised, "If you step out knowing that you will get praised for doing well and criticised for not doing well, you will remain grounded."

The cricket luminary emphasised that Suryavanshi should aim for a long-term career, saying, "Look at Virat Kohli; he started playing when he was 19 years old, and now he has played all 18 seasons. That is what he should be trying to emulate." The commentator cautioned that resting on early laurels might not sustain a player in the long run.
