Former Team India captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is all set to become the head coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) for the 2024 season.

Ganguly is all set to replace former Australia captain Ricky Ponting as the head coach of the franchise as DC finished at the second last position in IPL 2023. Ganguly was the team director of the franchise in the last edition.

Under the leadership of aggressive Australia batsman David Warner, DC played 14 games and won just five out of those matches. They were defeated in nine matches after starting with five consecutive defeats in the mega tournament.

As per media reports, Ganguly will replace Ponting as the head coach of DC after the Australian legend decided to part ways with the franchise after the team’s dismal show in IPL 2023.

Ganguly will take both the role of head coach and team director. Ponting drew flak from fans and experts for some crucial decisions that he took for DC during IPL 2023. He was criticised for sending all-rounder Axar Patel to bat lower down the order despite his brilliant form. Ponting’s decision to give so much chances to out-of-form Prithvi Shaw and his lack of clarity in thought about the selection of Sarfaraz Khan in the playing XI also didn’t go down well with the fans and experts.
