In a dramatic turn of player trades in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Hardik Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians ranks.
The development happened following an all-cash transaction with Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians.
The move was confirmed officially following an announcement by GT on their social media account X (earlier known as Twitter).
“It’s Official. Hardik Pandya Traded To Mumbai Indians.. Thank You Hardik Pandya.. You Will be Missed in our Dressing Room..,” tweeted Gujarat Titans.
The deal about Hardik’s deal was finalised after 72 hours when the IPL retention window was closed on November 26 at 5 pm. Despite being listed by Gujarat Titans earlier, the formalities were not complete, delaying the official announcement.
To facilitate this transfer, Mumbai Indians arranged a separate all-cash deal. They traded Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore. This move provided the necessary funds for Pandya’s acquisition.
Green, previously acquired by Mumbai Indians for Rs 17.5 crore, enabled the team to secure the funds for Pandya’s transfer. Pandya’s reported fee from his tenure with Gujarat Titans was Rs 15 crore.
Notably, Pandya led GT to remarkable success, including winning the championship in their first year and reaching the finals in the following season.
As per sources, after Hardik’s transfer to Mumbai Indians, promising batter Shubman Gill is all set to take over the captaincy of Gujarat Titans for the 2024 IPL season.
However, amid this trade, it is also speculated that Pandya is injured and he might not be able to play for the entire season of IPL 2024. Earlier, he was ruled out of the World Cup 2023 following injury.
