Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) speedster Naveen-Ul-Haq earned plaudits for his bowling heroics in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Eliminator against Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.

The Afghanistan pacer brought out a new celebration- where he shut his ears after taking the massive wicket of Mumbai skipper Rohit in the fourth over to spark a debate on social media.

However, this style of celebration did not go down well with former India opener Sunil Gavaskar. As per the legendry cricketer, Naveen should not have celebrated that way as he would miss being applauded.

“Naveen has had issues with the crowd. You should not celebrate by chucking your ears. This is the time he has got a wicket. He has got to listen to the applause. When somebody scores a hundred also, don’t chuck your ears. Listen to the applause, chuck your hand behind the ears and say ‘hello, now can I hear you?’ That’s how the celebration should be,” said Gavaskar.

But, Gavaskar’s noteworthy remarks triggered outrage on social media.

Reacting to Gavaskar’s comment, a fan wrote, “Sunny Gavaskar should stop commentary if he doesn’t understand Naveen’s celebration.

“Sunil Gavaskar shud just shut up. He is not making sense regarding Naveen’s celebration,” tweeted another fan.

Responding to Gavaskar’s remark, a third user commented, “Sunil Gavaskar has no business to tell how Naveen-Ul-Haq has to celebrate. Crowd was not easy on him and he is giving it back.”
