With India trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series against England, all eyes are on Jasprit Bumrah’s possible return for the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has hinted at a likely inclusion of the pace ace, while emphasizing the need for careful workload management.

Bumrah’s Impact and Workload Management

Bumrah has been a crucial weapon in India’s arsenal this series. After a five-wicket haul in the first Test at Leeds, he was rested during the second Test at Edgbaston to manage his workload. Returning to action at Lord’s, Bumrah delivered yet another five-wicket performance in the first innings, reaffirming his status as India’s pace spearhead.

“We’ll make that call on Bumrah in Manchester,” Ten Doeschate told reporters during a training session at Beckenham. “It’s clear the series is on the line now, so we’re leaning toward playing him. But we must consider the bigger picture, how many days of cricket we expect, our best chance of winning in Manchester, and the Oval Test that follows.”

Managing Siraj’s Workload Too

While Bumrah’s fitness dominates discussions, Ten Doeschate also underlined the importance of monitoring Mohammed Siraj. Siraj, the series’ leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets, has been a workhorse for India. “We often take for granted how lucky we are to have Siraj. He never shies away from hard work, and managing his workload is equally vital,” Ten Doeschate added.

A Crucial Clash Ahead

After a narrow 22-run loss at Lord’s, Shubman Gill’s men will be desperate to level the series when the fourth Test begins on July 23. With Bumrah and Siraj both in focus, India’s bowling attack could prove decisive in Manchester.
