Umesh Yadav smashed two sixes and a boundary in just 13 balls that he faced in his 17 run knock during India’s first innings against Australia in the ongoing third Test match at Holkar Stadium, Indore on Wednesday.
Both the sixes of Umesh came within the space of three balls. With his second six, the pacer equaled the record of star batsman Virat Kohli. This was Umesh’s 24th Test six and he equaled Kohli in terms of number of sixes in Test cricket. While Kohli has hit 24 sixes in 181 innings in Test cricket so far, Umesh has struck as many number of sixes in just 64 innings.
Kohli was seen enjoying and clapping after Umesh smashed the second six. The video has reportedly gone viral on various social media platforms.
Former swashbuckling batsman Virender Sehwag tops the tally as an Indian batsman with most number of sixes in Test cricket. Sehwag has hit 91 sixes in Test cricket. He is followed by MS Dhoni (78), Sachin Tendulkar (69), Rohit Sharma (68) and Kapil Dev (61).
Notably, hosts India were bowled out for just 109 runs in their first innings on a spin friendly wicket in Indore on the first day of the third Test. While Kohli (22) was the top scorer for hosts India, Matthew Kuhnemann (5/16) was the wrecker-in-chief for the visitors.
In reply, Australia were 156 for the loss of four wickets at stumps. They are now leading by 47 runs with six wickets in hand. Ravindra Jadeja (4/63) was the pick of the bowlers for India.
