India are currently taking on Australia in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval. With Australia heading for a big total on the second day of the match after being put into bat first, Team India have their backs to the wall.
With a genuine pace bowling all-rounder lacking in the team, India have drawn serious flak from several experts and fans over selection issue.
Meanwhile, former Australia captain and Delhi Capitals (DC) Ricky Ponting has recently revealed that Pandya was offered a chance to play in the WTC final as a ‘one-off’ match.
“Pandya made it clear that he feels his body won’t get through the rigours of Test cricket. He was aked to play just in a one-off Test to help the balance of the side? And his reply apparently was that he didn’t feel it was fair on everyone else who have been through this journey in the last couple of years leading into this game,” said Ponting while giving commentary.
Pandya has so far played in 11 Tests in his career and he averages around 31 with both bat and ball. He has scored one century and four fifties and has a best of 6/50 in red ball cricket so far. He is also India’s T20I captain.
