In 2000, the name of a left-handed batsman was doing the round after India won the U-19 World Cup under Mohammad Kaif. The man in focus was none other than Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvi, who turned 42 today, has seen many ups and downs in his illustrious career spanning 17 years.

After making his debut against Kenya, the world saw the first glimpse of Yuvraj Singh against Australia in the Quarter-Final of ICC Knockout (Now Champions Trophy) in 2000; Yuvraj Singh hit a stroke-filled 84 in Nairobi against the likes of Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie.

The cricketer is known for his excellent bat swing and extraordinary power. In the period from 2000 to 2011, Yuvraj Singh played some vital innings for India as a middle-order batsman. Not only that, he solidified that spot where India would rely upon someone who would get them out of crisis.
Let’s look at some of his finest moments in international cricket

In 2002, Yuvraj Singh’s career began to gain the limelight when his vital contribution of 69 runs helped India win against England in Lords at the Natwest Trophy Final.

In ICC World T20 2007, Yuvraj Singh went to write his own script as he hit 6 Sixes to Stuart Broad in Kingsmead Stadium, Durban. His thunderous show still remains fresh in people’s minds even today.

After making his debut, Yuvraj Singh was recognised as a swashbuckling whiteball specialist player. But the notion broke as soon he played one of best test knocks of 85* which helped India win an emphatic test win against England in 2008. He stitched a 163-run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar as India was chasing 387 runs in the 4th innings.

In the 2011 World Cup, words will be less to adore Yuvraj Singh’s contribution which helped India lift the trophy after 28 years.  Battling with a deadly illness, Yuvraj Singh ignored what was going on in his health and focused on winning the World Cup for his country. He scored 362 runs at an average of 92 and took 15 wickets.

He scored 8701 ODI runs with 14 centuries whereas he scored 1900 runs in Test cricket.
