The last couple of weeks have felt dull and uneventful for Indian cricket fans, with no major action taking place. While contests such as South Africa vs. England, Pakistan’s tri-series, and Sri Lanka vs. Zimbabwe have offered brief entertainment, the real excitement begins next week when the Asia Cup returns. The tournament will mark the start of a hectic, non-stop schedule for Team India that stretches all the way to the T20 World Cup.

With such a packed calendar on the horizon, Indian players and support staff are enjoying a rare period of rest. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, too, has taken a step back from the game before diving into preparations on September 5. Speaking at the final of the Delhi Premier League, Gambhir revealed that he has deliberately stayed away from cricket in recent weeks.

"I’ve been at home and haven’t watched much cricket. But this is a great stage for youngsters to show their talent. The DPL has done an excellent job by giving these players such opportunities," Gambhir said during the event broadcast.

Highlighting Delhi’s strong cricketing culture, he added: "There will never be a shortage of talent here. The competition is fierce, and Delhi has a lot to contribute not only to its own cricket but also to Indian cricket overall. Hopefully, these boys will continue to shine."

Later, in a rapid-fire session, Gambhir was asked to associate names with specific cricketing terms. He mentioned icons like Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, and Jasprit Bumrah, offering a glimpse into the players he immediately thinks of when certain words are brought up.
