In response, former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim slammed Rohit for opting out of the Sydney Test. According to Karim, Rohit was given the responsibility to lead the team for the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. However, the veteran batsman ran away from his responsibility.

“Rohit Sharma should have played the last Test and I don’t think he made the right decision. The selectors and the BCCI gave him responsibility for five Tests, but he left in between. He should have led the side till the Sydney Test. Every player goes through such phases,” said Karim in a recent interaction.

Karim further mentioned that Rohit should have led from the front despite his poor returns with the bat.

“Despite failing with the bat, he should have shown passion and will to lead the side from the front. He is a good batter and that’s why he was given a chance to lead the side. If the players were not performing, Rohit should have fought for them. I was surprised that Rohit decided to quit,” he added.
