Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has called for India to suspend all cricket matches involving Pakistan in response to the recent terror incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir on April 22.

Ganguly, who has also served as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), believes India should withdraw from cricket competitions sharing the field with Pakistan, be it bilateral series or international events. He insists on a firm response to Pakistan's continued support for terrorism.

Impact of Pahalgam Incident

The shocking events in Pahalgam have stirred the nation, leading to varied reactions. In a significant move, Indian broadcasters have decided to stop telecasting the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 matches.

This situation has ignited discussions among sports commentators concerning India's ongoing cricket relations with Pakistan. Ganguly, having played 65 international matches against their rival, remains committed to his stance on taking a strong stand.

"It's imperative that India sever cricketing relations with Pakistan. Taking strong measures is essential. It’s become a recurring episode — terrorism cannot be condoned any longer."

Diplomatic Relations & Cricket

On a diplomatic level, India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2012-13, only competing in International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tournaments. Adhering to the Indian government's directives, the BCCI has consistently opposed any bilateral actions with Pakistan.

Rajeev Shukla, BCCI vice president, has said that no bilateral series will take place unless diplomatic relations improve.

India has also chosen not to visit Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy, opting instead to play matches at a neutral venue in Dubai.
