Bhubaneswar: Renowned football coach Nanda Kishore Patnaik passed away on late Monday night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here for Covid-19.
Patnaik, who had created number of women players in national and international level, had tested positive for the contagious virus on May 12 and was admitted to Baripda Covid hospital.
He was later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for better treatment after his condition started deteriorating.
His oxygen level continued to fall due to widespread inflammations and infections in lungs. Despite all efforts of doctors, he succumbed to the deadly virus last night.

According to reports, senior administrative officers and noted sports persons were directly monitoring his health condition and extended all help to save the precious life of the noted sports coach.
A pall of gloom descended on the sports fraternity following the untimely demise of Patnaik.
“He was a pioneer in building new talents and was a huge inspiration for budding players. I can’t express my sorrows and grief after hearing the tragic news. He had played a most pivotal role in building my career as a football player,” said national level player Ranjita Mohanty, who was one of the students of Patnaik.
Patnaik had sacrificed his entire life for football. He was so devoted to the sports that he had sometimes forgotten his personal life and family, Mohanty remembered.
“Many players including I have lost a most lovable and affectionate coach today. He will remain in my heart for ever. May his soul rest in peace,” Mohanty added.
