Carlos Alcaraz put up a scintillating display in the Wimbledon final to beat 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller on Sunday.
Termed as the title favourite, Djokovic started well and won the first set with elan. However, Alcaraz came back strongly and didn’t allow his powerful opponent to run away with the second set. He then outplayed the experienced Serb completely in the third set. But the seven-time champion bounced back in the fourth to push the match into the decider.
Eventually, Alcaraz won his maiden Wimbledon title 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
When the sports enthusiasts across the globe are celebrating the 20-year-old’s thrilling triumph, an old video of him playing on a clay court event has gone viral on various social media platforms due to the commentator’s mention of Virat Kohli.
The video is about the match between Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Alcaraz is found serving a ball and then returning a ball coming from opposite court with a strong forehand.
Tsitsipas then drops it close to the net but is outdone by Alcaraz’s brilliance. The budding star takes his opponent by surprise by doing the same.
Immediately after the point, the commentator can be heard comparing Alcaraz with star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and Michael Jordan.
“It’s like watching Virat Kohli in cricket or Michael Jordan,” the commentator can be heard saying in the video.
Notably, Kohli is considered a modern-day great with 75 international centuries to his name so far.
