Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik undertook a ground assessment of the works for the indoor athletic stadium project at the Kalinga Stadium complex in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
The indoor athletic stadium, the first of its kind facility in the country, is being built at the Kalinga Stadium in the Capital city at a cost of Rs 120 crore.
Official sources said that the project is targeted to be completed by 2022. Once complete, the stadium can become a residential facility for more than 100 athletes for full-time coaching.
This is the first indoor athletic stadium in India and it will help the athletes to practice throughout the year. This indoor athletic facility will be a major boost for the development of athletics in India and will become the hub to create champions in coming years,” said Patnaik.
According to the Chief Minister, the facility will play a crucial role in hosting national and international indoor athletics events.
Patnaik also visited the ongoing Tennis Centre project at the stadium. The Centre court of the Tennis Centre is being constructed for hosting national and international events. The Center will have all facilities to conduct the ITF tournaments, Davis Cup et al.
Later Patnaik watched the ongoing Odisha Women Football League match at the main football ground in the stadium complex and also spoke to some players.
Afterward, Chief Minister Naveen surveyed the hockey stadium and conveyed his good wishes to the players of the Indian Men's and Women’s teams practicing for the upcoming Pro League Championships.
Currently, projects over Rs 300 crores are under execution at the Kalinga Stadium complex, including the indoor Athletics stadium, indoor Aquatics stadium, Tennis Centre, staff accommodation and Hockey HPC building.
