WTC Final
South Africa have qualified for the Final berth of the World Test Championship after securing the top spot by defeating Pakistan in the opening match of their two-match Test series at Super Sport Park in Centurion.
The victory propelled the Proteas’ winning percentage to 66.66% and thus they have confirmed their place in the WTC Final. Even if they lose the second Test in Cape Town, their points percentage will only decrease to 61.11%. However, it will still be higher than that of at least two of the three teams—Australia, India, and Sri Lanka—vying for a spot in the final.
This will be South Africa’s second appearance in an ICC tournament final. Earlier, they had qualified for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. However, they lost the final against India by just seven runs. The Proteas will now await their opponents for the final berth at Lord’s in June 2025.

With South Africa securing a spot, the equation for India is now straightforward but tougher. Now, there are some possible ways through which India can improve their chances of qualification for the WTC Final spot 2025.
India should ideally win both the remaining matches of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Test series. A 3-1 series victory would push India’s points percentage to 61.11%, securing them the second spot.
If BGT is tied at 2-2 with Australia, India would be desperate that Australia don’t win a single match against Sri Lanka in their next two-game away series.
