After an embarrassing loss in the 1st test against South Africa in Centurion, India made a resounding comeback by winning the 2nd test by seven wickets in Cape Town. All credit goes to the bowlers who made it easy for Team India after knocking South Africa for their lowest score (55) in Test cricket.
Several records broke as 23 wickets fell on the 1st day in Cape Town.
It all started with Mohammed Siraj who picked up 6 wickets after South Africa elected to bat first on Day 1. After getting SA bundled out for 55, India’s counter-attacking cricket gave them a 1st innings lead of 98 runs. Rohit Sharma (39), Virat Kohli (46) and Shubman Gill (36) were instrumental in giving India an early advantage.
During India’s 1st innings, an unreal implosion occurred as six wickets fell for no runs which is a record. From 153-4, India collapsed to 153-10.
In the second innings, South Africa too came out with an attacking mindset of scoring quick runs in order to reduce the deficit. Aiden Markram blazed his way to a sensational hundred on a pitch where run scoring was difficult. His 106 ensured South Africa get a lead of 79 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India as he picked 6 wickets.
In reply, India made a quick start with the bat as Yashasvi Jaiswal made 28 runs and stitched an opening partnership of 44 with Rohit Sharma. Later, India eased their way towards a historic win against the Proteas in Cape Town to level the series 1-1.
