Veteran pacer Mohit Sharma of Gujarat Titans team registered an unwanted record in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Mohit gave away 73 runs from his four overs as he registered the most expensive spell in the league’s history. Rampaging Rishabh Pant took him to the cleaners with a whirlwind half century. In the process, Mohit broke the record of former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Basil Thampi, who conceded 70 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2018. Making things worse, Mohit failed to take a single wicket in what was an off day.

Mohit Sharma
Mohit now holds the top spot in giving away the most runs (70) in an innings. The veteran pacer was brought on in the 12th over against Delhi Capitals (DC) and started his spell by conceding 12 runs. He conceded 16 runs in the 16th over as Pant damaged his confidence. Subsequently, Mohit gave away four sixes and a four in the 20th over.
Basil Thampi
In the 2018 IPL season, SRH pacer Thampi was thrashed by the RCB batters as he gave away 70 runs. The likes of AB de Villiers and Mooed Ali smashed breezy fifties as Colin de Grandhomme and Sarfaraz Khan lit up the scenes with cameos.
Yash Dayal
In IPL 2023, GT pacer Yash Dayal went on to concede 69 runs for no wicket against KKR. Dayal’s expensive spell helped KKR register a stunning three-wicket win.
Reece Topley
Earlier this season, RCB pacer Reece Topley scripted an unwanted record. He conceded 68 runs from four overs, becoming the first RCB bowler and the first foreign player in IPL to concede this many.
