Team India’s chances of going into the final of the World Test Championship have been hit massively after a shocking whitewash 3-0 by New Zealand on home soil. During the series, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli failed to perform which sparked a debate on social media whether the duo is still good enough to take India forward in test cricket.

Speaking ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Former Australian batsman Mike Hussey has backed the two players to come good, despite having a poor outing against New Zealand recently.

"You could hear earlier Gautam Gambhir talking about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not making runs. Well, the silliest thing you can do is to write off champion players and we've seen it so many times in the past. They come under a bit of criticism and come out and perform really well. So I'm backing those guys in particular to perform really strongly in Australia. They are proud Indians, they're proud Test cricketers and they'll put in a good performance. So I'm expecting to see the best of India, but I still think Australia will start favourites and will be primed to win this series," Hussey said.

India now needs a mountain to climb as they need to defeat Australia by a margin of 4-0 to qualify directly into the WTC final 2025 without depending upon other results. India have it in the past both times by defeating Australia in 2018 and 2021 on Australian soil and this will be a boost for India ahead of their first test match on 22nd November in Perth.
