The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly stated its unwavering policy of non-participation in bilateral cricket series with Pakistan, following the tragic incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
Rajeev Shukla, BCCI Vice-President, reiterated the board's alignment with the government's directives, affirming, 'Whatever our government will say, we will do.' This policy has been in place since the last series played between the two nations during Pakistan's tour of India in the 2012-13 season.
Encounters Limited to International Tournaments
Currently, cricketing encounters between the nations are restricted to international championships. India opted out of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, with matches, including the highly anticipated India-Pakistan contest, set to be hosted in Dubai instead.
Condolences and Condemnation
Responding to the incident in Pahalgam, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia voiced profound condolences for the lives lost, denouncing the aggression and extending sympathies to those affected. Reflecting on the national sentiment, Saikia said, 'We stand hand in hand at this hour of tragedy.'
Tributes at IPL Match
A respectful tribute was observed during the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Before the first ball was bowled, a 60-second silence was maintained to honour the victims, allowing viewers both in the stadium and watching via broadcast to participate in homage.
