Team India’s number-one strike bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022. The right-arm unorthodox speedster suffered a back issue last year. He has undergone surgery for his injured back in New Zealand recently.
While Bumrah is on the road to recovery, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is optimistic about his full recovery in time for the ODI World Cup 2023. The upcoming mega tournament will be held in India from October 5 to November 11.
Notably, the unorthodox pacer missed the all-important 2022 T20 World Cup due to his back problem. He was included in the ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka only to be pulled out later. He is also missing the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) for Mumbai Indians (MI). The speedster will not be part of the all-important World Test Championship (WTC) Final against formidable Australia either.
BCCI is hopeful that Bumrah will get fully fit by September and he may play a few matches on the road to the ODI World Cup to prove his fitness. The unorthodox bowler is a key member of the team and without him, Team India’s bowling attack is becoming their weakest link in major tournaments.
However, aggressive wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is confirmed to miss the upcoming 50-over World Cup. He is recovering from multiple injuries which he sustained during a car accident.
