The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday declared that Rishabh Pant is fit and he will be seen in the TATA IPl 2024.
"After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024," BCCI tweeted.
Delhi Capitals captain Pant has been out of action since December 30, 2022. He survived a near-fatal car accident on that black day while travelling to his home town Roorkee in Uttarakhand from Delhi.
After the tragic incident, the wicketkeeper-batsman underwent three ligament surgeries in his right leg before starting his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Pant’s return to cricket ground is a huge boost for Delhi Capitals ahead of the upcoming edition of the marquee event that starts on March 22.
The aggressive cricketer had missed IPL 2023 due to injuries. Earlier, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting had stated that Pant will lead the side if declared fit.
However, despite BCCI’s announcement, there is still uncertainty whether Pant will keep wickets or not. DC management has hinted that Pant is likely to play as a pure batsman in IPL 2024. However, BCCI secretary has recently stated that if the left-hander is able to don the big gloves behind the wickets, he will be considered for the T20 World Cup 2024 berth in Team India.
