BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma was caught in a controversy following a sting operation by a TV channel on Tuesday. During the sting operation, Sharma allegedly revealed some shocking truth about Indian cricket.
Sharma was recently reinstated by the BCCI as the chief selector after being removed following India’s debacle in the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Sharma was purportedly seen during the operation claiming that Indian cricket team players have injected banned injections to get 100 per cent fit even when they were not fit enough to play. As per the claim, these injections contain drug that cannot be caught in a dope test. However, the authenticity of it is yet to be verified.
As per the former pacer, he had a difference of opinion with the team management over express fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s return from a stress fracture for the T20I series against Australia in September.
Bumrah is ruled out for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. The pacer is also likely to be out of the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
As per Sharma, there was an ego clash between former skipper Virat Kohli and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.
In another shocking revelation, Sharma said, “We weren’t favouring Rohit as a captain. We were just against Virat Kohli. BCCI took the advantage of Virat’s poor form and removed him from captaincy. They shouldn’t treat the country’s No.1 batter like this. Shameful.”
However, Sharma was unavailable for comment on the entire episode.
As per sources, BCCI is looking into the matter. National selectors are not supposed to speak to the media as per the contract.
