Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is hogging the limelight after being declared as the No 1 in all-rounder in the latest rankings list which was released by ICC on Wednesday. Hardik's all-round efforts were highly appreciated by cricket pundits in the recently concluded T20 series against South Africa where India won 3-1.

However, ahead of the IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians are dented with a huge blow as Hardik Pandya will be not leading the side in the season’s opener.

Many fans might be wondering why BCCI has banned him one year in advance.

To answer that question, Hardik was banned after the last game of Mumbai Indians due to slow over-rate.

According to the rules of BCCI, A captain is fined Rs 24 lakh and the rest of the players are also fined if a team fails to complete full overs in the stipulated time. A captain has to pay a hefty fine of Rs 30 lakh and the players are also fined in case of a third over-rate offence.

As Pandya-led Mumbai Indians failed to complete 20 overs in the stipulated time in three matches in the 2024 IPL season, BCCI reprimanded Hardik and served him a one-match ban.

The 2024 IPL Season didn’t fare well for the 5-time IPL champions after they finished at the bottom of the table.

Players retained by Mumbai Indians

Apart from Hardik Pandya, Mumbai Indians have retained Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. Bumrah was MI's first-choice retention and he will have a salary of Rs 18 crore.

With a remaining purse of Rs 45 crore, Mumbai Indians will enter the IPL Auction which is all set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25.
