Kuldeep Yadav has consistently been overlooked by Indian captains and coaches, despite his impressive performances. He hasn’t received regular opportunities under the leadership of Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, and now Gautam Gambhir appears to be continuing the same trend. Kuldeep has frequently been dropped across all formats, even after delivering match-winning performances.
In the recently concluded Test series against England, he was left out of the playing XI for five matches. Although Kuldeep has an outstanding record in both white-ball cricket and Tests, he has struggled to find a permanent place in the team.
Both Wasim Akram and Sanjay Manjrekar expressed their surprise at the way selectors and team management have treated the left-arm wrist-spinner over the years. In a recent match against the UAE, Kuldeep played a crucial role by taking four wickets as India bowled out the hosts for just 57 runs in 13.1 overs. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his exceptional performance, helping India secure a nine-wicket victory.
Manjrekar, in a light-hearted tone, remarked that given Kuldeep’s history of being dropped, he might once again be left out of the next game. “Look at his track record across formats. His numbers are impressive. He would be dropped from the next match,” he said.
However, realizing the potential controversy, Manjrekar quickly clarified, “I know it won’t happen, and he will be part of the playing XI.”
